About: Join the Office of Multicultural Student Engagement for a monthly book club! We will be reading and discussing the highly celebrated A Woman is no Man by Etaf Rum. At the first meet up, we will get to know one another through icebreaker questions. On December 13, we will discuss Part I of the book; January 10, discuss Part II; February 7, discuss Part III. Cultural Canvas: Exploring Native American Tattoo Traditions

In alignment with the National First-Gen Day, the goal of the WSU First-Gen Fest will be to recognize and celebrate the experiences, contributions, accomplishments, and presence of first-generation college students, alumni, and employees at WSU, who are the first to attend/graduate from a four-year college. The Warrior 360 Program in partnership with the Office of Multicultural Student Engagement (OMSE), the Dean of Students Office (DOSO), and Housing & Residential Life will be working together to bring this celebration to campus.

Soul Food Luncheon

Join us for the annual Soul Food Luncheon on Friday, November 15th, from noon to 2pm in the Student Center Hiberry ABC. The annual event aims to create a space for connecting and networking between students, staff and faculty, and alumni. This event is collaboration with The Office of Multicultural Student Engagement (OMSE), The Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) , and The Organization of Black Alumni (OBA). While this event centers the experience of Black students, all are welcome to attend. While this is a feature event with the Welcome Black series, it also is an opportunity to learn more about OMSE, BFSA, and OBA. Additionally, food is first come, first served. This interactive workshop, designed and facilitated by Right To Be, is open to all WSU students, faculty, and staff. The goals of this workshop are to educate on various forms of bias and invite participants to utilize a bystander intervention approach to disrupt bias and xenophobic harassment. This workshop will occur over Zoom in live-time. It will not be recorded. RSVP is required.
Sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Student Engagement and the Office of Inclusive Excellence. This is a part of a three-part partnership with Right To Be that includes bystander intervention to stop anti-Asian/American harassment, islamophobic harassment , and antisemitic harassment.

Warrior Lawyers Documentary Screening & Discussion

Join OMSE, NASO, and the Law School for an in-person screening of the PBS documentary, 'Warrior Lawyers', followed by a discussion with the filmmaker, Audrey Geyer. Warrior Lawyers is a one-hour documentary about Native American role models, Nation Re-Building and Tribal Justice. Through the personal and professional stories of American Indian Attorneys, Tribal Judges and their colleagues, the program provides an overview of the major historical, governmental, legal, judicial and intertwining social justice issues shaping many Federally Recognized Nations today. This 60-minute documentary is unrated. Join us for a screening of the film followed by a Q&A with the director Audrey Geyer.
Audrey Geyer has been a video director/producer for over 20 years. Many of her programs have aired on PBS as well as been distributed to the educational markets and through community screening events. She is the Founder and Executive Director of Visions, a non-profit 501(c) 3 independent video production organization, located in Metro Detroit. Visions mission is to produce social affairs documentaries that tell stories of Midwest communities and cultures underrepresented in the media. And that help foster empathy in our viewers, expand their knowledge as well as encourage dialogue, inclusiveness and social change. Visions has produced two documentaries on contemporary Native American issues: ‘Our Fires Still Burn: The Native American Experience’ and ‘Warrior Lawyers: Defenders of Sacred Justice’ Audrey has a B.A. in film studies from the University of Michigan and a Masters in Social Work from New York University. Holiday Diversity Celebration

Holiday Diversity Celebration Program is an event centered on not only celebrating the various cultural and religious holidays this season but providing students with holiday related inclusive language. A small presentation will be given about diverse holiday celebrations, how to help create a safe and inclusive campus, and what diverse experiences have to offer! There will be coloring, crafts, puzzles, games, drinks, and snacks for all to enjoy. One of the crafts we will have will be decorating snow globes for students to take home!

The Office of International Programs and the Office for Multicultural Student Engagement are pleased to welcome Arthur Musah, creator of Brief Tender Light. This documentary focuses on follows four African students striving to become agents of positive change back home. Even as their dreams are anchored in the societies they left, their daily realities are defined by America. Each must refine their ideas about the world and about themselves, and ultimately, how to transform youthful ideals into action as adults. We will screen the film at 4 p.m. and then have a discussion with the filmmaker at 5:30 p.m.

Workshop: Election Stress: What it is and How to Cope

This workshop is intended to create space for understanding stress and learning coping strategies to help manage election stress. It is not a space to discuss politics, political issues, or particular candidates. Attendees should be prepared to respectfully listen and share their emotional experience of elections.

This event is centered around providing support for students who are voting in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. There is a lot of coverage surrounding the election and it can be overwhelming. The Student Voting Workshop is intended to be a safe space for students to come and ask any and all questions about voting, retrieve reliable resources on the candidates, find out who is on their specific ballot and where they are registered to vote, help students find polling booths in their area. Join us on the 7th Floor of the Student Center as we hold space for a Día de los Muertos community ofrenda where you can stop by anytime this week to contribute photos, non-perishable and non-valuable items - no candles, please - to honor and remember your loved ones in this beautiful tradition of remembrance. We will celebrate Día de los Muertos and the completion of the altar at 2pm on Friday, November 1st. All items must be picked up no later than 1pm on Monday, November 4th.
